Fore Aft Balance

A specific set of balancing skills in skiing, “Fore/aft Balance” refers to how you distribute your weight across the heels and balls of your feet.

It’s referred to as balance management in the “Fore/aft Plane”.   There are two planes of balance in skiing:  Fore/aft and Lateral.

How you choose to distribute your weight across the heels and balls of your feet is referred to as your fore/aft “State of Balance”.  The State of Balance you choose to employ has a significant influence on how your skis perform, and how much muscular effort is required.  Directing more weight to the balls of your feet makes your skis turn sharper.  More weight on your heels makes them go straighter and faster.  Equal weight on ball and heel is the most relaxing and energy efficient way to ski.

Learning to manage your fore/aft balance provides performance options that will enhance your ability to ski any terrain on the mountain, and handle the challenges it throws your way.
